How Much Does Google Play Closed Testing Cost?

Paid closed testing services cost between $5 and $40 for one app. Most sit between $15 and $30 for 12 to 25 testers across the full 14 days, and the free route costs nothing but your time.

Why is there a range from $5 to $40?

Because you are not buying the same thing at each end.

At $5 on a freelance marketplace you are buying twelve opt-ins. Whether those testers open the app again on day six is not part of the deal, and there is no replacement if one drops out.

At $39.99 TestFi supplies 16 testers so that 12 can remain through day 14, and every tester returns written or video feedback [4]. That is a different product.

The middle of the market, roughly $15 to $30, buys you a managed test with replacement and a refund term.

What is the lowest price?

Marketplace gigs start around $5, and managed services start around $12.

What a low price does not tell you is whether the testers are real people, whether they stay opted in for fourteen days, or what you get back if they do not. Those are the parts that decide whether the fortnight was worth anything.

Decide which of the three you need before comparing prices, because the cheapest option in one category is not comparable to the dearest in another.

What should you actually compare?

Four things, none of which is the headline price.

Replacement. One tester opting out restarts your fourteen days. Automatic tester replacement is what stops that.

Is the free route really free?

It costs time instead of money.

In a swap community you test other developers’ apps while they test yours. For sixteen days that is a real commitment, and it is the reason people opt for a paid service once they are shipping regularly.

It is a good route for a first app, and there is no shame in it.
