Guide 2 of 4·Days 0 to 14·4 min read
How your 14-day test works
What happens from the moment you submit to the day your reports arrive.
Google Play asks new personal developer accounts to run a closed test with at least 12 testers opted in for 14 days before applying for production access. That 14-day requirement is the entire test, and you apply on day 15, as soon as the full 14 days are complete. We also keep testers on your app for two extra days, a free safety buffer, which is why your dashboard shows 16 days in total. The extra days are our bonus, not a longer requirement.

Within 6 hours: testing begins
Our testers opt in to your closed test and start using your app. You can watch the opted-in count climb on your dashboard. - 2
Days 1 to 14: daily engagement
More than 12 testers keep your app installed and use it every day. Steady daily engagement is exactly what Google wants to see. - 3
During the test: release 2 to 3 updates
Push a few small updates while the test runs. Bug fixes, UI touch-ups, or minor features all count. Active development strengthens your production access application. - 4
By day 10: your reports arrive
Your Feedback Report, with what testers noticed and their suggestions, and your Production Access Report, with pre-filled answers for Google's form, land in your app's Reports tab. - 5
Day 15: apply for production access
The full 14 days are complete. Apply with your Production Access Report beside you. The production access guide walks you through all 10 questions. - 6
Days 15 and 16: testers stay on, free
While your application is with Google, testers stay on your app for two more days as a safety buffer, at no cost and with nothing required from you. Your reports stay available in your dashboard.
You never need to watch the tester count
We monitor every test every day, and if a tester goes quiet we replace them, so your opted-in count stays comfortably above 12 for the whole period. And a policy nuance worth knowing: even a temporary dip never resets the 14-day clock. Keeping the test healthy is our job, not yours.
